Pet Cats
Although CATS can be difficult at times, living by
their own set of rules, they do make devoted and loving companions.
Their personalities are as varied as the personalities of
people. Choosing
a cat whose personality is compatible with your lifestyle
will help ensure a happy relationship. While it can be hard
to determine a cat's personality in the few minutes you have
with them before you decide, you can determine a lot about
the cat if you know the cat's breed.
More than 30 percent of American households have a cat as
part of the family. Felines require less time and expense
than most other pets, including dogs. Cats are independent,
usually inexpensive to obtain and very clean. They also are
extremely adaptable and happy living in either a small apartment
or a large house. Whether you choose a purebred cat or ordinary
house cat, cats make rewarding and relatively easy-to-care-for
pets; they don't have to be walked; they amuse themselves
when no one is around; they are quiet; they groom themselves
(although they benefit from regular brushing and bathing if
or when needed) and come in a wide variety of colors, coats
and temperaments.
Before adopting a cat, consider carefully the commitment
you are making. Indoor cats generally live to be 15-20 years
old. Be honest with yourself. Is your living situation stable
enough to accommodate a pet for this period of time? Animal
shelters are filled with pets that were surrendered because
the owners had to move and couldn't take their pets with them.
It's difficult to find good homes for adult cats.
Cat Tip - Feed your cat in the same place every time
- a quiet spot that's out of traffic routes and well away
from the litter box.
Cat Tip #2 - Longhaired cats will require frequent
grooming, typically at least three times a week.
